Simple Sloppy Joes

Well, maybe not as simple as opening a can of Manwich, but these Sloppy Joes are packed with a lot more flavor. I made them in about 20 minutes from start to finish, which means they’d be an easy, tasty, and comforting weeknight meal.
Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:

1 lb. lean ground beef (at least 90% lean)
1 medium red onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 (15.5) oz. can of pinto or red kidney beans, washed and drained
1 c. no-salt-added tomato sauce

1/2 c. ketchup

1 TBSP red wine vinegar

1 TBSP unsulfured molasses
1 TBSP Worcestershire sauce

2 TBSP Texas Pete’s hot sauce, or other preferred brand

1 TBSP chili powder
salt and freshly ground black pepper
6 whole-wheat hamburger buns

Directions:

1. Brown the meat and onions, stirring over medium-high heat, for five minutes. Pour the drippings out of the pan and discard.

2. Add the garlic and simmer four to five minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Add the rest of the ingredients (except buns!), reduce heat to low, and simmer for another five minutes.

4. Spoon mixture on to toasted buns and serve. Don’t forget napkins!
